Governance & Policies
Governance Overview
The Adult Competitive Sports Association (ACSA) serves as a national governing body for adult competitive sports. ACSA establishes standards, authorizes competition through sanctioning, and enforces policies designed to promote safety, accountability, and competitive integrity across sanctioned leagues and events.
ACSA does not operate leagues or teams. Its role is to provide independent oversight and a consistent governance framework for adult competition.
ACSA governance applies to all ACSA-sanctioned activities, including leagues, tournaments, events, and affiliated participants.
Authority applies only during sanctioned competition and does not extend to unsanctioned or informal play.
Governance includes oversight of:
-
eligibility and participation standards
-
conduct and sportsmanship expectations
-
disciplinary enforcement
-
insurance and risk compliance
-
dispute resolution related to sanctioned activity
-
ACSA maintains the following core governance policies to support fair, safe, and accountable competition:
Code of Conduct
Establishes expectations for behavior by athletes, officials, coaches/captains, administrators, and spectators, including standards related to sportsmanship, harassment, abuse, and on-court conduct.
Eligibility Standards
Defines participation requirements for sanctioned competition, including age classifications, roster integrity, and eligibility verification.
Sanctioning Policy
Outlines the conditions under which leagues and events may be authorized to operate under ACSA governance, including compliance obligations tied to insurance and standards enforcement.
Discipline & Enforcement Policy
Provides ACSA with authority to address violations of governance standards, including warnings, suspensions, and revocation of membership or sanctioning when necessary.
Appeals & Due Process
Affirms that individuals and entities subject to disciplinary action may request review in accordance with established appeals procedures.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Ensures governance decisions are made impartially and transparently by ACSA leadership and advisory bodies.
ACSA governance is supported by an Advisory Council composed of individuals with experience in adult competitive sports, officiating, league operations, and risk management. The Advisory Council provides guidance on governance matters but does not manage daily operations.
Compliance with ACSA governance policies is a condition of:
-
membership
-
league and event sanctioning
-
insurance eligibility
Failure to comply with applicable policies may result in disciplinary action or loss of sanctioning.
-
ACSA governance policies govern participation in sanctioned competition only and do not create employment, agency, or contractual relationships beyond sanctioned activity.
